Biblical Womanhood ~ by Brooklyn

My dad asked me to share something on our family blog that was on my heart, and I decided to write about biblical womanhood. Biblical womanhood is a very important thing for young women like myself in the world today, and some young women haven't even heard of biblical womanhood before. A very important part of biblical womanhood is building good character.

As part of our human nature young ladies including myself often think that that we can build character on our own. I recently read this phrase in a book called "Beautiful Girlhood" by Karen Andreola.

"No character is built right and true if the builder does not have in mind a picture of the woman she wants to become."

This simple phrase stood out to me so much. It made me really think about character building, and I think that it is a lot easier to develop bad character than good because of our selfish nature and desires. But I know someone that is the perfect example that anyone and everyone can pattern their life after and his name is Jesus Christ.

( By the way, I highly recommend this book for young women who are struggling on this topic.)

One way to show biblical womanhood is to want to serve others instead of wanting to be served yourself. I know it's hard, these things aren't easy for me either! It takes a lot of work but in the end it will be worth all the time and energy, and if we have a heart for wanting to be a biblical woman, it will be much easier. But in reality, it would be a lot less stressful if we really let God work in us because we know that on our own we could do nothing.

Psalms 103:14 says "He knows our frame and remembers that we are dust." So often He has to remind me that I would be nothing without Him. So therefore we couldn't do things like being more patient, gentle, and kind, in our case, if we were trying to do it on our own. He is the Lord God Almighty! I can do all things only through Christ who strengthens me!

Another way to develop being able to become a biblical woman is to fear the Lord.  The wise old woman would say "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is in vain: but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised!" Fearing the Lord is a very good way to develop becoming a biblical woman. God hears the desire and yearning coming from our hearts and he knows that we are trying harder and he will bless us.

 I know that it is every girl's desire to look pretty including me and that's normal, but outer beauty isn't the most important of all. If you have kind, patient, and gentle inward beauty, you will be much happier than girls who focus only only on outward beauty.

I have read  about young women that are writing to the perfect and beautiful woman on the cover of the magazine. They wrote things like "Miss Beautiful, I would like to know how I could get rid of all my freckles, zits, and how to get that beauty mark you have. Also how do you get your hair so shiny because mine is wavy and black and it won't cooperate!"

Those young women who desire only outward beauty are always worried about how they look. What they don't understand is that the young models on the front of the magazine are never satisfied with their outward beauty.
 
I have always thought of it this way. Inner beauty is like a cake. (without icing) It is our foundation, it is what we depend on. Outer beauty is considered as the icing. The icing isn't necessary in order to have a good cake. Actually, the inward beauty will speak louder than a perfect nose or a beauty mark.

Also, as a young woman  I believe that it comes down to this. God speaks to us in his word from the New Testament that we should not be concerned with our outward beauty but rather with our inward spirit. Paul even says that if a woman has a husband that is an unbeliever, by her portraying biblical womanhood he would be won to Christ just by her actions.

Well I certainly hope that I have encouraged you in some way and that you realize that you aren't alone, and that God is the one who works in us and that through it all God is with us no matter what! "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes : Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
